Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering Co., Ltd. (DSME) held a job fair at the College of Humanities' Kyung-Dong Hall on April 2. Student interest in the company was expressed by the unavailability of seats.
"Focus on speaking English well rather than on studying for the TOEIC because employees must speak English in order to take orders from foreign clients," the company representative advised. He also mentioned DSME's equal opportunity policy that does not discriminate against women, pointing to the increase in the number of women in the company work force. He encouraged students not to give up on DSME despite the difficulty of having to go through the complicated interview process.
"I want to emphasize just two things to students who desire to enter DSME," Han Hyun-soo, a new employee at DSME and DAU alumnus (Mechanical Engineering), said, "First, write your application essay so that it shows you are a person of integrity and passion. Second, let your application form reflect your knowledge of shipbuilding."
Of 360 new employees hired by DSME last year, 24 were DAU graduates.
After a screening of a public relations video, four new employees who are DAU alumni were introduced. They gave a presentation on the history of DSME, the shipbuilding industry, the work environment, and company pension. Then they discussed DSME's hiring practice--the type of employees it seeks, the method of selection.
