Students who are learning about English language and literature performed Oscar Wilde's play "The Importance of
Being Earnest" in the original English at Seokdang Hall on September 10.  The performance was given two times a day at 4 and 7 P.M.

The student participants (actors, director, staff) spent their entire summer vacation only in preparation, coming to
school everyday, giving their best in rehearsals, sacrificing their free time.

Students who participated in the drama prepared directly matters relevant to the performance itself as well as
selected the piece of drama to be performed through a discussion among themselves.  They made doubly sure of a
successful performance with faculty assistance.  In addition, they received support from a tutor interested in the drama.

"I had a very hard time during the two months, but I felt that I had made a good decision to participate after finishing the performance.  I could mature as a result of my struggles with myself and gain confidence in English," said
Jang Ho-taek (Freshman, English), who played the role of Jack, the hero of the play.  He added that he will never forget his experience, which he considers worthwhile.

The annual presentation of drama began in 1997, a tradition which has continued with this 12th drama festival.  On this day, with invited faculty, DAU students, guests, and actors' families, the performance concluded  successfully.

In spite of the fickle weather alternating from a scorching heat wave to a continuous rainy spell, both performers and
staff came to school to rehearse everyday.  They spoke about the difficulties encountered during their preparations.

"We had a lot of trouble finding a space to rehearse.  The air conditioner broke down often during rehearsals.  It was
difficult to rent a hall to perform," Lee Dong-geun (Junior, English), the director, said.  He hoped for more active support from the university.

According to Seo Jung-in (Sophomore, English), it was too hard to understand the play and the language.  So he
hoped that next year the words spoken by the performer in the play would be displayed by a beam projector.
