        With the heat of late summer severe and gasoline prices high, consider taking an inexpensive trip around the
Busan area.

        You might take a ride on Taejongdae's Danubi train, become a movie actor performing a part on a windy hill in
Oedo, hang a wishing lantern during Jinju Namgang Yudeung Festival, gather chestnuts on the banks of the Seomjin
river, and play a role in a drama in the German village at Namhae.  Travel will rejuvenate your university life.

        
        △ Taejongdae's Danubi Train

        Taejongdae park is located on the southern tip 9.1 km along the Youngdo coast.  It is a representative scenic spot
of Busan where you can see Japan's Susima island, about 56 km from here, if the weather is really sunny.

        Danubi train departs from and returns to Taejongdae entrance, passing through 5 stops within 20 minutes: Taejong temple, Youngdo Lighthouse, Gumyeong temple, observatory lounge, Taejongdae pebble field.  You can get off and
get back on the Danubi train at each stop free of charge.  You will wish to get off the train to see and enjoy the
grandest view of Taejongdae.  The train runs from 9 a.m. to midnight, but tickets are sold only until 10 p.m.  The fare is
1,500 won for adults. In addition, there is an excursion boat that departs from the observatory and passes Suicide Rock via Oryukdo.

        △ Oedo (Paradise Island)>

        Take a cross-country bus from Busan.  In about 3 hours, you will arrive in Geoje, which is well known for providing the scenic background for all sorts of dramas and model shoots.  Then an excursion boat from Jangseungpo wharf will bring you to Oedo, an island that belongs to Mr. and Mrs. Lee.  The entire tour takes around 3 hours.

        Getting off pleasure boat, you will see a beautiful arched front gate which has a roof with red tile.  The tour of Oedo begins here in its garden park.

        It's very exotic, both sides of the street lined with palm trees.  Tourists especially love the fifty species of cacti.  
Resembling a miniature Versailles, the Venus garden has twelve Venus sculptures.

        The strong fragrance of flowers wafts through the island.  Haekumgang scenery is fine, the sea ever so blue.  
When you smell the fresh tang of the sea air, sit down on the French bench and listen to serene music, you will
experience the romance of living there.  In addition, there are other tourist attractions such as the best pebble beach in Korea, Sinseondae, and the Historic Park of Geojedo P.O.W. Camp.

        Oedo's entrance fee is 8000 won for adults.  The sightseeing boat fare is 19,000 won on weekends.  Total traveling expenses based on Busan Tours Club calculations are about sixty thousand won for one adult in Busan Tours Club.

        △ Jinju Namgang Yudeung Festival

        Take a cross-country bus about one and a half hours from Busan's western terminal; then you will arrive in
Jinju.  As you make a wish upon seeing a beautiful lantern, as you take pictures and participate in various festivities,
you will find your relationship to your family and friends deepened.

        You can also get there by taking a comfortable Saemaeul train (KAT: Korail Academy Train), avoiding traffic and
the high cost of oil.  You can enjoy various special festival events on board such as a cash wine bar, which lets you
taste the wine for free.  The festival runs from October 1 to October 12.  The train fare is five thousand won for adults.

        △ Seomjin Riverside

        Entering the Honam Expressway and passing through the Gokseong Interchange from Busan, you will arrive at
Gokseong-eup.  Riding a taxi a few minutes, you will see Seomjin river train village, where you can bicycle with your
lover along Seomjin river, ride the rail bike, and gather chestnuts.

        Gathering chestnuts and love, participants on theme travel to pick up plump chestnuts in Simcheong village,
Gokseong-eup, Jeollanam-do have no second to be bored with this enriching and fulfilling experience.  As a bonus,
participants can take the chestnuts gathered by themselves home.

        Round trip fare by tourist steam locomotive train is 5,000 won for adults; the rail bike fare is 3,000 won for one.  More fun is available for riders who take the bicycle path along the riverside.  Bicycle rentals cost 3,000 won for one person;
two person-bicycle rentals cost 4,000 won.  Total traveling expenses based on Busan Tours Club calculations are
about forty five thousand won for one adult.

        △ Darangyi Village and German Village

        Take a cross-country bus about two and a half hours for Namhae terminal from Busan's western terminal.  Get on
the bus to Gacheon and get off at the last stop, Darangyi village.  For German village, board the bus to Jijok-dong,
Samdong-myeon at Namhae terminal and get off at Mulgeon village, Samdong-myeon.
        Namhae, the location for both films and television productions, has become famous for providing scenic
backdrops.  'Fantastic Couple,' which ended last year, 'Barefoot Gi bong,' ''Let's Go to School, Sangdoo,' 'The Little Mermaid,' 'Deep Loves,' and 'Love At Sarang' were shot there.

        Darangyi village is more famous for the 'Barefoot Gi bong' movie.  Near German village, which became noted for
the 'Fantastic Couple,' you can try German wine at HeOReum YeSulChon (헤오름예술촌).
